Kairos Prison Ministry Australia is an interdenominational Christian ministry reaching out to incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them; to bring sustainable meaning and hope in the place of loneliness, isolation and despair. Kairos is building Christian Community in response to the challenge issued by our Lord Jesus “I was in prison and you visited me” (Matthew 25:36) to share with inmates and their families the unconditional love of God. To enable a vision of the abundant life that a relationship with Jesus gives. There are two ministry arms to Kairos Prison Ministry Australia:
Kairos Inside – The Kairos Inside program reaches out to men and women who are incarcerated. Through a short course (and optional follow-up program) participants are introduced to the love and sacrifice given by Jesus Christ and witness Christ’s love in action through the service of Christian volunteers. Kairos Inside is conducted in co-operation with Prison Chaplains and Senior management as well as teams of volunteers made up of lay people and clergy.
Kairos Outside – For women who have or had a family member or close friend in prison. It brings women together in a weekend away setting to care for them and show them love as an outpouring of Christ’s love. In a 2½-day Weekend, women can share openly and confidentially. Talks and meditations are designed to address the pain of enduring separation from their loved one, and the judgment of others from their community.
